Abstract

Objective To estimate acute dietary chlorpyrifos exposure among the people in Jiangsu province. Methods According to point estimation and simple distribution, the dietary chlorpyrifos exposure was calculated based on food consumption data from a 24 hours dietary recall survey in Jiangsu province in 2002 and the chlorpyrifos contamination data of 2003-2006 from Jiangsu Agriculture Products Pesticides Monitoring System. Then the results were compared with the acute reference dose(ARfD) for chlorpyrifos established by the Joint FAO/WHO Meeting on Pesticide Residues(JMPR) to assess the hazard. Results The results of point estimation and simple distribution were 17.47 μg/kg·bw·d and 8.80μg/kg·bw·d,both below the ARfD.The mean dietary chlorpyrifos exposure of different age groups ranged from 0.2 to 0.49ug/kg·bw·d.The exposure of younger age group was higher than that of older age group. Conclusion The acute dietary chlorpyrifos exposure in Jiangsu province is within the safety limit. But the higher chlorpyrifos exposure of children, especially younger age groups should be concerned about.
