Abstract

[Objective]The study was conducted to make a preliminary analysis of deaths of epidemic cerebrospinal meningitis for the prevention and control of ECM and to provide bases for clinical diagnosis in Hebei Province during 2005-2009.[Methods]Analysed the epidemiological, clinical and laboratory-related features of meningitis deaths, analyzed the time of diagnosis on epidemic cerebrospinal meningitis and the time from the onset to the death in Hebei Province from 2005 to 2009.[Results]In Hebei, the death time of meningitis occurred in December and from January to May,and the percent in all death cases was 89.47%.ECM mainly occurred in children under 5 years, especially in children with scattered living, and the percent was 76.30% in all death cases, there was no gender differences between males and females;ECM with strong regional differences and obvious clinical features;A group was found more in laboratory tests, but the C group with an upward trend;only one meningitis outbreak occurred in the province.[Conclusion]In Hebei Province, the incidence of meningitis is with a downward trend, but the fatality rate increases.Death cases have long average diagnosis time,un-vaccinated children and the difference region are found more in death cases. The above characteristics are related with delayed clinical diagnosis, low vaccination rate and differences of regional living and health habits, etc.
