Diagnosis and treatment for foreign body in median esophagus of 58 cases

Abstract

Objective:To assess the effectiveness of diagnostic and endoscopy theraputic measures for foreign body in median esophagus. Methods:Using different apparatuses to remove foreign bodies according to the different locations under the vision of endoscopy.Results:In 53 cases, foreign bodies were successfully removed with only one case of mediastinal emphyseme. The other 5 cases (4 fishbones, 1 false teeth) all had a history more than 48 h with signs of perforation. Two of them died after surgery.Conclusion:Removing foreign bodies in median esophagus by endoscopy is effective and safe.
