Wide resection of thigh giant soft tissue sarcoma by anterior-posterior approach

Objective To assess the efficacy of wide resection for giant soft tissue sarcoma of thigh through the anterior-posterior combined approach. Methods Wide resection was done for 8 cases of giant soft tissue sarcoma of thigh through the anterior-posterior combined approach, radiotherapy was done in 7 cases after operation. Results 4 patients survived without evidence of tumor after 1 to 6 years. Another wide resection was done after 1-2 years because of tumor recurrence in 3 cases and they survived without evidence of tumor after operation. One patient died without radiotherapy. Conclusions Wide resection through the anterior-posterior combined approach and postoperative radiotherapy is an effective limb salvage therapy for giant soft tissue sarcoma of thigh. Second wide resection and radiotherapy for recurrent soft tissue sarcoma of thigh is still a effective treatment.
