Abstract
Objective:To investigate the significance of VEGF and CYFRA21-1 in differentiating benign and malignant pleural diseases to increase the negative rate of malignant pleural effusions.Methods:Levels of VEGF and CYFRA21-1 were detected using ELISA method in pleural effusion of 42 cases of tuberculosis pleural effusion and 34 cases malignant pleural effusion to compare the sensitivity and specialty of the two indexes.Results:VEGF levels in the tuberculosis pleural effusion were(318.82± 173.14)pg/ml ,significantly lower than those of malignant patients with pleural effusion.CYFRA21-1 levels in the tuberculosis pleural effusion were(12.72±11.06)ng/ml,significantly lower than those of malignant patients with pleural effusion(814.48±284.04)pg/ml and (38.87±19.67)ng/ml,the difference of which was statistically significant(P0.01).The sensitivity and specialty of VEGF were 79.41% and 95.24% respectively,while the sensitivity and specialty of CYFRA21-1 were 67.65% and 92.86%.The sensitivity of single positive test was 85.29%,while the dual positive test was 100.00%.Conclusion: The level of VEGF and CYFRA21-1 in malignant pleural effusion is obviously much higher than that of the tuberculosis pleural effusion.VEGF combined with CYFRA21-1 measurement might be an useful index in differentiating diagnosis of benign and malignant pleural effusions.
