Comparison between continuous and intermittent aeration modified integrated oxidation ditch in the sewage treatment

Abstract

In order to improve phosphorus removal efficiency and reduce energy consumption of modified integrated oxidation ditch(MIOD) process,the comparison between continuous aeration and intermittent aeration(aeration for 1 hour and non-aeration for 1 hour) was made in two aspect of sewage treatment efficiency and energy consumption from aeration.The result revealed that the removal rates of COD,NH3-N and TP of(MIOD) in continuous aeration operation mode were 85.28%,91.14% and 73.09% respectively.The removal rates of COD,NH3-N and TP of(MIOD) in intermittent aeration operation mode were 85.22%,93.57% and 81.33% respectively.The conclusion was that the intermittent aeration operation mode was conspicuously superior to continuous aeration operation mode in phosphorus removal.In addition,the energy consumption of intermittent aeration operation mode was lower.
