Abstract

Objective To observe the antimicrobial effects of Eomecon chionantha alkaloids(ECA) and sanguinarine(SAN). Methods The agar proliferation method and the agar dilution method were used to study the antimicrobial effects of ECA and SAN on the tested bacteria, including Escherichia coli,Staphylococcus aureus,Pseudomonas aeruginose, and Candida albicans. Results ECA and SAN could inhibit the growth of Escherichia coli,Staphylococcus aureus, and Candida albicans, but did not inhibit the growth of Pseudomonas aeruginose. The minimum inhibition concentrations of ECA against Escherichia coli,Staphylococcus aureus, and Candida albicans were 40 ug/ml,160 ug/ml,and 40 ug/ml,respectively.The minimum inhibition concentrations of SAN against Escherichia coli,Staphylococcus aureus, and Candida albicans were 40 ug/ml,80 ug/ml,and 40 ug/ml,respectively. Conclusions ECA and SAN could strongly inhibit the growth of Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Candida albicans, but had no apparent inhibition on Pseudomonas aeruginose.
