Abstract
The matrix metalloproteinase(MMP) family is an important enzyme degrading extracellular matrix,and the tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase(TIMP) is a natural inhibitor of MMP.The imbalance of MMPs and TIMPs in the extracellular matrix has confirmed to relate with a variety of pathological states,especially tumor invasions and metastasis.Here,a review concerning about the research proceeding of the structures and functions of MMPs and TIMPs,the relationship between them and hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) invasion or metastasis is presented.
