Abstract

Objective To investigate the relationship between esoghageal varices and plasma C type natriuretic petide (CNP) in liver cirrhosis. Methods CNP was measured in plasma samples collected from 20 healthy subjects and 30 liver cirrhosis patients by radioimmunoasisay. Results Plasma CNP of cirrhosis patients (53.35±14.54) pg/ml was significiently higher than that of healthy subjects (19.96±5.56) pg/ml (P0.05).The levels of plasma CNP among 3 group of liver cirrhosis patients in different Child's grades were shown as follows:Child CChild BChild A.The concentration of plasma CNP varied positively with the diameter of portal vein (r=0.06,P0.01).The concentration of plasma CNP was markedly higher in liver cirrhosis patients with esophageal varices (78.61±11.26) pg/ml than that of the patients without esophageal varices (43.30±4.69) pg/ml,P0.05.Conclusion CNP reflects the severity of liver cirrhosis. It might relate with esophageal varices in liver cirrhosis.
