Brief Analysis of FANG Dong-shu's Poetic Thoughts in Zhao Mei Zhan Yan

FANG Dong-shu,as a famous thinker of Tongcheng Scholar School,expressed his poetic theory mainly in Zhao Mei Zhan Yan,which was represented on the following three aspects.First,on the aspect of poetic content,he emphasized poetic legitimacy,its cultivation function,as well as the personality and culture of the poet himself.Second,in so far as poetic creation,he paid much attention to the creating methods and looked for witticism,change and novelty,instead of being confined to the stereotype.Third,with regard to poetic artistic style,he put forward the Theory of Spirit and Charm and held the value of eliminating vulgarity but advocating elegance.
