Kartagener's syndrome:One case report and literature review

Objective To summarize the clinical features and treatment of Kartagener' s syndrome(KS). Methods 57 cases of KS,which one case was diagnosed and treated in the Chinese PLA general hospital,were retrospectively analyzed.Results The patient was female,26-year old and suffered from cough and expectoration for 13 years.CT scan showed bilateral bronchiectasis,visceral inversion and sinusitis.Heteropathy was given to the patient and the symptoms were improved.No aggravation was observed in 3 years following up in this case.From the cases reported in literatures,we found that there were no obvious difference existed between the number of male and female. The main clinical manifestations included cough,expectoration,hemoptysis and dyspnea,which were the symptoms of bronchiectasis.However,only few patients had rhinocleisis and nasal discharge which were the symptoms of sinusitis. The main treatment for these patients was heteropathy.Open drainage of the accessory sinus was operated in a few patients but no significant improvement was observed.Conclusion The main clinical manifestations of KS were symptoms of bronchiectasis.Most patients had no symptoms of sinusitis.There was no specific treatment for KS presently.
