Abstract

Objective To observe the effect of jejunal rhubarb perfusion on the levels of serum IL-6,IL-8 and pathological changes in experimental severe acute pancreatitis rats. Methods Thirty-six rats were randomly divided into three groups:normal control group(sham operation group,SO group,n=12),model group(severe acute pancreatitis group,SAP group,n=12) and therapeutic group (rhubarb group,n=12).SAP were induced by retrograde infusion of 5% sodium taurocholate into the bili-pancreatic duct. The levels of serum IL-6 and IL-8 were measured by radio-immunity. Wet-dry weight ratio was assayed while pathological changes of pancreas were examined and scored by light microscopy. Results The levels of serum IL-6,IL-8 were found higher in either SAP group or rhubarb group compared with SO group (P0.01); and the levels of serum IL-6,IL-8 were found lower in rhubarb group compared with SAP group,(P0.01). Both wet-dry weight ratio and the score of pathological changes were lower in rhubarb group compared with SAP group,(P0.01). Conclusions Jejunal rhubarb perfusion can significantly decrease the levels of serum IL-6,IL-8 and pathological changes in experimental severe acute pancreatitis rats.
