Abstract
Objective:To investigate the effectiveness and safety of laser in situ keratomileursis(LASIK) for medium and high astigmatism.Methods:LASIK was performed on 47 eyes of 35 patients with medium and high astigmatism. All were followed for 9 months at one-month intervals. Visual acuity,refraction,astigmatism and axis of astigmatism were observed during each visit.Results:The visual acuity at 9 months after surgery was better than the initial visit in 22 of 47 eyes(46.8%). The refractive error after surgery was less than ±1.00 D in 91.5% eyes. The average residual astigmatism was -0.56 D.Conclusion:LASIK was a stable and predictable method for medium and high astigmatism. [
