Abstract

Objective To investigate the clinical effects and safety of mesalazine combined with bifid triple viable for treating ulcerative colitis(UC).Methods Sixty patients with UC were randomly divided into treatment group and control group,30 cases in each group. The control group took mesalazine orally, whereas the treatment group was administered bifid triple viable based on the treatment of the control group, and both courses of treatment were 2 months. The serum of fasting patients drawn venous blood in the morning of the next day after hospitalization and after treatment was separated. The levels of superoxide dismutase(SOD),malondialdehyde(MDA) and C-reactive protein(CRP) in serum were detected, and the clinical effects, improved conditions of symptoms and occurrence of adverse reactions of both groups were observed. Results Compared with previous treatment, the levels of serum MDA and CRP in both groups after treatment obviously decreased, while that of SOD distinctly increased. After treatment, the levels of serum MDA and CRP in the treatment group were lower than those in the control group, while that of SOD observably higher than the control group. The diarrhea, abdominal pain and mucobloody stool all improved significantly in both groups after treatment. The incidence rates of diarrhea and mucobloody stool in the treatment group after treatment were notably lower than those of the control group. There was no marked difference between the total efficacy rates of both groups, and the incidence rate of adverse reactions of the treatment group was markedly lower than that of the control group. Conclusion In comparison to its single application, mesalazine combined with bifid triple viable in the treatment of UC can markedly reduce the levels of MDA and CRP,increase SOD activity, and has significant clinical effects. The adverse reactions are slight and can be tolerated.
