Abstract

The erodible characteristic of slope coming water and the relationship of slope gully erosion are discussed based on data of runoff and sediment yield in the loess areas of the middle Yellow River basin, and the source of sediment on typical small catchment is determined based on concept of net increment of sediment yield as slope coming water with sediment concentration and applying analytical method of formation at different position in a catchment. The results showed that sediment at a small catchment in the middle Yellow River basin is mainly come from slope, the sediment source from slope are about 55%, 60%, 78% and 85% of total sediment load of small catchment due to effect of slope coming water by the Yangdaogou,Wangjiagou, Jiuyuangou and Nanxiaohe gullys respectively.
