Abstract

The southern area of Jin(the ancient name for Shanxi Province)was one of the major areas Shang Dynasty devoted to controlling. The military defence by Shang Dynasty in its early period against the area of southern Jin made up a very important part in where the nation Xia lived.Archaeology evidence reveals that in its middle period , Shang Dynasty reinforced the control over the southern and eastern Jin instead of temporarily keeping a close eye to the east of the river and the large area of southern Jin, mainly because of the decline of the national power and the stronger power from the aborigines in the southern Jin. In its late period, the military force moving in and out of this area reflects the increase and decrease of the national power of Shang Dynasty as well as the complicated ethnic relationships.Continual control by Shang Dynasty over politics and military force in the southern Jin objectively promoted the ethnic fuse and cultural exchange within the border of Shanxi, which laid a foundation for the establishment of Zhou Dynasty. Together with this , it has also maked a great impact on the civilization in the area of southern Jin
