Modeling Sodium Hemodialysis and Dialysis Disequilibrium Syndrome

Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of modeling sodium hemodialysis on disequilibrium syndrome. Methods One hundred and twenty-eight cases subject to initial sodium hemodialysis were randomly divided into two groups: observation group and control group. The patients in observation group (n = 64) underwent modeling sodium hemodialysis (the starting sodium concentration in dialysate: 150 mmol/L, and 136 mmol/L 30 min before hemodialysis), while those in the control group were subjected to conventional hemodialysis (sodium concentration in dialy-sate: 138 mmol/L). The blood sodium concentration and the incidence of disequilibrium syndrome were observed before and after hemodialysis in the two groups. Results In observation group the incidence of disequilibrium syndrome was obviously lower than that in the control group (all P0. 05). There was no significant difference in blood sodium concentration before and after hemodialysis between the two groups (both P0. 05). Conclusion Modeling sodium hemodialysis can reduce the incidence of disequilibrium syndrome.
