The Mourning Customs of Hui in Qudong from the Perspective of Cultural Identity

As the largest Hui-inhabitant village in Western Yunnan,Qudong in Yongping County has a Hui population of nearly seven thousand,where there are more than ten villages with most of the residents being Hui or Han people.Over more than seven hundred years,the local Hui people have been carrying forward the funeral culture from generation to generation and now still preserve some distinctive features of Chinese Hui people’s funeral culture.Based on the author’field work and local documents collected,this paper introduces in detail the funeral rites of the Hui people in Qudong,and analyzes the characteristics and mechanism of their mourning customs from the perspective of cultural identity.
