Abstract

Objective:To study the value of serum brain natriuretic peptide (BNP)in patients with congestive heart failure (CHF).Methods:The 138 subjects were selected to the study including 76 CHF patients,32 patients with pulmonary dyspnea but without CHF and 30 healthy subjects.Left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF) was measured by echocardiograph. The serum BNP was measured by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay method.Results:(1)The level of serum BNP in CHF patients(853.6±258.3 ng/L) was much higher than those in pulmonary dyspna(110.1±22.4 ng/L) and normal control group(105.1±21.2 ng/L),P0.01 all; There were sensitivity of 100% and specificity of 85.5% for serum BNP 113.0 ng/L;(2)There were significant differences of serum BNP level among NYHA Ⅱ、Ⅲ and Ⅳ(P0.01).The serum BNP level had negative correlation with LVEF(r=-0.920,P0.01).Conclusion:The concentration of BNP possesses significant diagnostic value for CHF and value evaluating CHF degree.
