Self-locking PEEK cage of cervical vertebra for cervical myelopathy

Objective To evaluate the clinical outcome of self-locking PEEK cage of cervical vertebra in treatment of cervical myelopathy.Methods 18 patients with cervical myelopathy were treated with self-locking PEEK cage of cervical vertebra.In all cases,the stability and the fusing of this instrument were observed.JOA scoring system was applied to evaluate the neurological function.Intervertebral height and cervical curve measured by Borden method before and after operation.The data were compared statistically by one-way variation analysis.Results All of the patients were followed up for 6～42 months,There were no severe adverse events.All patients obtained bone fusions in 6 months after surgery;Intervertebral height before operation,one week after operation,six months after operation were(3.26±0.68)mm,(6.03±0.89)mm and(5.89±0.78)mm,respectively,showed there were significant differences between the preoperation and one-week postoperative period(P0.01);Cervical curve in the corresponding time above were(2.55±0.48)mm,(3.24±0.67)mm and(8.14±1.17)mm,respectively,indicating that there was obvious improvement between one week and six months postoperatively(P0.01).According to the JOA score evaluation system,at the last follow-up period the excellent cases were 4,good 9,fair 3,and poor 2.Conclusions Self-locking PEEK cage of cervical vertebra can recover intervertebral height and cervical curve effetively,provide satisfactory postoperative fusion,and improve neurological function.
