Abstract
Objective To explore the expression of cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2) in nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC) and its clinical significance. Methods The expression of COX-2 was detected by immunohistochemical method in specimens from 45 NPC patients and 20 cases of nasopharyngeal atypical hyperplasia. Results The positive rates of COX-2 in NPC patients and atypical hyperplasia patients were 71.1%(32/45),10.0%(2/20) respectively and the difference was statistically significant(P0.001).Conclusion The expression of COX-2 is enhanced in NPC tissue, which indicates COX-2 may play an important role in the pathogenesis and development of this tumor.
