CT diagnosis of appendix mucinous cystadenoma

Objective To explore the feature and value of CT in the diagnosis of appendix mucinous cystadenoma.Methods CT performance and clinical data of 11 cases with appendix mucinous cystadenoma confirmed by surgery and pathology were retrospectively analyzed.Results Three cases were male and the othes were female.The cystic masses were located in the right lower quadrant near the ileocecal part or the right pelvic cavity.Eight cases were round,tubal,two cases were comma sign and one was lobulated.The cystic wall was even or uneven,and 4 cases were calcification.There wasn't separation in all of the cases and CT value of the content ranged from 10HU to 30HU.On CT enhancement scanning of 7 cases,5 walls were enhanced,2 walls were enhanced unobviously,and the contents were not enhanced.Ten lesions with clear structure and one of them complicated with intussusception into the cecum.One case had unclear border with cecum and lymph nodes around.Conclusion When cystic mass with the round,tubal or comma shape and the uniform or nonuniform wall in the right iliac fossa is found by CT,around which mesentery is normal,the possibility of appendiceal mucinous cystadenoma should be considered.
