The analysis of major adverse effects in intravenous amiodarone

Objective To investigate the adverse effects induced by intravenous amiodarone and to explore how to standardize the usage of amiodarone further, and minimize the adverse effects accordingly. Methods The data were collected from in-patients who administered intravenous amiodarone from October 2003 to September 2005. The adverse effects caused by intravenous amiodarone were analyzed. Results The incidence of the abnormal hepatic function was 12.6%. Male was more easily to get hepatotoxicity than female. There were 9 patients with severe hepatotoxicity, 7 with severe bradycardia needing intervention, 4 with hypotension needing intervention, 1 with allergic reaction. Conclusion Intravenous amiodarone may result in some adverse effects, however, it is safe and efficient if only intensive monitoring, early finding and early treatment are taken.
