Abstract

Ethyl 3benzoylacrylate (1) and (5) was synthesized by the FriedelCrafts and esterification reactions from benzene and maleic anhydride. The byproduct (5) was detected by GC/MS, and it was transformed into the product by alkylbenzene. In this process the purity of the product (1) is enhanced from 65%~83% to above 98%, and the total yield is ≥72%.
