Abstract

Objective To appraise the relevant factors of maternal and neonatal outcomes in severe preeclampsia (S-PE)preterm birth by comparation with spontaneous preterm birth. Methods A comparative study was conducted among 119 cases of S-PE preterm birth and 243 cases of spontaneous preterm birth from 28 to 36 weeks of gestation,Results Most patients in S-PE underwent cesarean delivery. In early preterm birth whose gestational weeks were less than thirty-two weeks, the cases with antenatal care were much lower than the cases whose gestational weeks exceeding thirty-two weeks. The neonatal mortality rates were all in the cases whose gestational weeks were less than thirty-two weeks,no difference was seen between these groups. The average birth weight, rates of SGA,NRDS,severe neonatal asphyxia and the duration of NICU hospitalization were significantly different among the two groups respectively. Conclusions Antenatal care is important in decreasing the incidence of early preterm birth.Early severe preeclampsia significantly affect fetal growth. The neonatal mortality rates are high in both early S-PE and spontaneous preterm birth.(Shanghai Med J,2007,30:513-516)
