Abstract

Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) are one of hotspots in scientific researches, and now POPs have became one of worldwide problems. In this paper the properties and the hazard to humans health of 12 POPs on UNEP control list are described. POPs are semi volatile, toxic, bioaccumulative and persistent in the environment. At the same time, main sources of POPs are described . Treatment technologies of POPs are reviewed. Especially, physical, chemical, and biological remediations of soils contaminated by organochlorine pesticides and the treatment technologies for dioxins contamination of waste gases, soils and water are emphasized.
