The Comparative Analysis of the Residents' Health Literacy in Zhengzhou between 2008 and 2013

Abstract

Objective In order to provide evidence to improve the health promotion program,the research group compares the varying levels of health literacy in the past 5 years,and explores the main factors that influence the residents' health literacy. Methods The objects were collected by cluster sampling from 4 communities in Zhengzhou,and the Chinese citizens' health literacy questionnaire(2008 edition) was used to conduct the survey. Results 584 objects were collected. The total score of health literacy was40. 50 ± 8. 686,6. 3% citizens had well health literacy. T-test and ANOVA were used to test the difference among people stratified by demographic characteristics. The Gender,nationality and marital status had little effect on residents' health literacy scores. The age,degree of education,whether engaged in medical professional,whether suffering from chronic diseases had a significant influence on health literacy. Health knowledge,health skills and health behaviors were significantly related( P 0. 01). Conclusions The health literacy levels were significantly increased compared with 2008 in Zhengzhou. But the mechanisms of action of the content elements need to further clarified,and the health promotion interventions should be targeted to carry out.
