Abstract
Objective To study the influential factors of plasma endothelin (ET) in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM). Methods The plasma concentrations of ET, insulin (Ins), triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC) and blood glucose (BG) were measured in control group (43 subjects) and DM group (45 cases) both on fasting and two hours after breakfast. Bodymassindex(BMI)was also calculated. Results ET of DM group showed significant elevation as compared with that of control group (P0.01). In DM group fasting and postprandial ET and Ins were positively correlated (P0.05, P0.01). Fasting ET and TG showed no significant correlation, but postprandial ET and TG were positive correlated (P0.01). Both fasting and postprandial ET were positively correlated (P0.01) with BG. Both fasting and postprandial ET showed no significant correlation with TC. ETandBMIrevealedno significant correlation. Conclusion The plasma ET concentration in DM patients is higher than that in health persons. Ins, TG and BG are important factors that cause plasma ET elevation in DM patients. The above three factors elevate postprandial plasma ET in patients with DM.
