Abstract

Objective To observe the effect of emodin on procollagen α1(I) mRNA expression in rat liver in hepatic fibrogenesis induced by carbon tetrachloride(CCl4).Methods Fifty male SD rats were randomly divided into 3 groups, named as blank control group(n = 10),CCl4 group(n = 20),and emodin + CCl4 group(n = 10).The rat models of experimental hepatic fibrosis were established by injection with CCl4.The treated rats received emodin via oral administration at a dosage of 20mg / kg / d at the same time. The mRNA expressions of procollagen α1(I) were assessed using real-time RT-PCR.Results The mRNA expression of procollagen α1(I) in the CCl4 group was significantly up-regulated than that in the blank control group, and that from CCl4 + emodin group was significantly down-regulated than that in the CCl4 group(P 0.05).Conclusions Emodin can give a down-regulate expression of procollagen α1(I) mRNA in fibrotic liver tissue.
