Effect of Atorvastatin Calcium on Carotid Atherosclerosis

Abstract
Objective To observe the effect of Atorvastatin calcium in treating carotid atherosclerosis and its clinical efficacy.Methods One hundred and twenty six patients with carotid atherosclerosis in our hospital from October,2008 to December,2010 were randomly divided into two groups(Atorvastatin calcium treating group,63 cases) and control group(conventional treatment group,63 cases),A treatment cycle of 12 weeks was carried out and the plaque area intima-media thickness(IMT) were observed by Color Doppler.Results After 12 weeks of treatment,the difference in carotid IMT was not significantly between the two groups(P0.05),but significantly in the plaque area as compared the treating group with the control group or pro-treatment(P0.05).In treating group,there were significant differences in TC,TG,hs-CRP levels before and after the treatment(P0.05),and the changes of TG levels was also significantly in control group(P0.05);CH,hs-CRP levels showed a significantly different after the treatment in both groups(P0.05).Conclusion Atorvastatin calcium can improve the blood lipid level and reverse carotid atherosclerosis plaque.
