Abstract
Liang Zongdai's theory on pure poetry always aims to remedy abuses in modern verses and rectify wrong ideas in the mainstream poetry world.Liang's definition of “pure poetry” reveals its realism, its aesthetic mechanism and the aesthetic state it is trying to reach.Based on the understanding of pure poetry,Liang absorbed the essence from Chinese and foreign verses, and expounded on the symbolic connotations, features and aesthetic feeling. In his articles on poetry,Liang mentioned some skills in composing poems and the accomplishment of poets;poets are both introversive and extroversive observers;there is to be an agreement between human souls and outward things in the creation;the noble character of modern verses lies in the stress on the power of wisdom;and pure poetry calls for the whole attention of the poet.
