Abstract
Epoxy resin is a kind of thermosetting resin with excellent general performances,but its toughness is not enough. Several main toughening methods for epoxy resin are discussed and compared from mechanisms . These methods are elastomeric rubbers,inorganic and rigid particles,core-shell particles, thermotropic liquid crystal polymer (TLCP) and interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) and thermoplastic resin. On the basis of compare, expectation and development are made on toughening of epoxy resin.
