Abstract

Objective To study the relationship between serum hepatocyte growth factor(HGF) and carotid stenosis in transient ischemic attack patients(TIA).Methods 64 patients with transient ischemic attack(TIA) and 28 healthy control volunteers were selected in the study.Digital substrction angiography(DSA) was performed on 64 TIA patients to detect carotid stenosis. The patients were divided into three groups based on the level of carotid stenosis:slight stenosis group, mild stenosis group and severe stenosis group. The serum HGF of different groups were tested and compared. Results The levels of serum HGF in each patients′ group were significantly higher than normal healthy control group(P0.01).And its level of the severe stenosis group was significantly higher than that of the mild stenosis group and slight stenosis group(P0.01),and mild stenosis group significantly higher than slight stenosis group(P0.05).Conclusion The levels of serum HGF is highly correlated with the severity of carotid stenosis, and it can be regarded as the index of early atherosclerosis.
