Clinical significance of detection of serum TGF-β_1 in patients with hepatitis C

Abstract

Objective To explore the effect of transforming growth factor β 1(TGF β 1) on the development of hepatitis C.Methods Level of TGF β 1 in serum were detected with ELISA method in 40 patients with hepatitis C and 35 normal controls.Results The level of TGF β 1 in patients with hepatitis C was higher than that in the normal controls( P 0.01).Significant positive correlation was found between serum levels of TGF β 1 and serum ALT and total bilirubin.Conclusion Detection of serum TGF β 1 might be one of the important parameters for clinical evaluation in patients with hepatitis C.
