Abstract
Objective To investigate the relationship between atrial fibrillation and coronary heart disease. Method 56 elderly patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) suspicious of coronary heart disease (group AF)and 50 elderly patients without AF but with definite coronary heart disease (CHD,group CHD) were included in this study.Blood lipids, electrocardiography(ECG),treadmill exercise test(TET),single photon emission computed tomography(SPECT)and coronary arteriograhy were examined in all of them. The data from two groups were compared. Result Blood cholesterol, triglyceride, high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL C)levels in group CHD were significantly higher than those in group AF[(6 50±1 95)vs(5 60±1 03), P 0 01;(2 03±0 63)vs(1 03±0 43), P 0 001;(1 97±0 39)vs(1 03±0 34), P 0 01,respectively].Positive results with SPECT,TET,ECG and coronary arteriography in group CHD were also significantly higher than those in group AF(45 vs 11, P 0 001;47 vs 7, P 0 001;47 vs 5, P 0 001;50 vs 5, P 0 001,respectively). Conclusion Incidence of CHD in the elderly patients with atrial fibrillation is not higher.
