EAF Steelmaking Raw Materials and Direct Reduction Ironmaking Processes

In China,the raw materials of EAF steelmaking consist of scrap,pig iron,hot metal,DRI,and so on.DRI is the best diluent of the residual element for producing clean steel by EAF process.Direct reduction is important development direction of steel industry,among which the processes of gas-based shaft furnace and coal-based kiln are relatively mature and have achieved industrial production.However,the production of DRI is still in the start-up stage in China,and the output of DRI was about 0.6 Mt in 2008,which accounted for less than 1.0% in total output of the world.Therefore,DRI owes broad development potential in our country,and the main direction of DRI development is to develop the process of oxidized pellets-coal gasification-shaft furnace direct reduction on basis of domestic iron ore resources.
