Misreading in Literary Translation

Traditional meaning theories propose that a text meaning is determined by the author's intention or by the text itself.Correct of the source text is to reproduce the author's intention or the text meaning.However,it is proved to be an ideal by recent researching findings of modern meaning theories.The paper argues that the popularity of misreading is determined by the undecidability,richness and openness of literary meaning.It indicates that a translator's understanding of the source text is incomplete,historical,subjective and creative.Translator's creative understanding and interpretation does not only enrich the meaning of a source text,but also improve communication across cultures.It is suggested that critics adopt a more tolerated attitude towards misreading in literary translation because it provides possibility for the re-creation of source text meaning and re-construction of target culture.
