Diagnosis and therapy of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo

Abstract

Objective:To discuss the diagnosis and therapy of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). Method: Clinic data of 8 cases of BPPV are analyzed retrospectively. Medical history of all the cases are collected and neurological checks of ear are taken, and Dixt-Hallpike test and resupine-strophocephaly test are progressed. Epley respositioning procedure and Lempert roll maneuver are separately carried out according to the type of BPPV.Result:Five of 8 cases are PC-BPPV, and 2 of 8 cases are HC-BPPV. The other one is mixed type of PC-BPPV and HC-BPPV. All the cases are remitted via 1-7 times of treatment. Conclusion:The disease might be diagnosed through typical clinical manifestations and posture test, and different repositive treatment might be used according to different type of BPPV. Epley respositioning procedure and Lempert roll maneuver are the preferred therapy to treat BPPV.
