An Analysis of the Administrative Policy of the Trade on the Silk Road in the Sui and Tang Dynasties

Abstract

The was one of the main passageways to communicate with the outside world after Zhang Qian passed the western regions in the Han Dynasty.The period of the Sui and Tang dynasties was the golden time for the development of the trade on the silk road.In the Sui Dynasty,the governors adopted a series of military and political policies to open the northwest area and establish trade towns,military towns,and sent the senior official Pei Ju to undertake investment activities in the Hexi Corridor to expand the economic trade with the Western states,the Middle Asia,Persia and develop the trade on the the silk road positively.In nearly one and a half centuries before the An-Shi Rebellion in the Tang Dynasty,the powerful military,politics and economy kept the Silk Road smoothly open.On the silk road,post stations had been set up,guo suo,gong yanand other systems had been carried out by the government of Central Plains,and its adminstrative policy on the trade on the silk road had been improved,all of these promoted the development of the trade on the silk road.
