Abstract

In recent years, regulations of ovary follicular development have made great progress on primordial follicle recruitment, selection, follicle growth, ovulation and formation of corpus luteum. Studies have showed that many of the members of transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) superfamily play important roles in different stages of folliculogenesis. Growth differentiation factor 9 (GDF-9) and bone morphogenetic protein 15 (BMP-15), two members of TGF-β superfamily, which mainly expressed in mammalian oocyte, play a key role in follicle growth and development. This review discussed the roles of GDF-9 and BMP-15 during follicular development.
