Abstract
Objective:To investigate the effects of splenectomy on liver function and peripheral hemogram in patients with cirrhosis and splenomegaly. Methods:Serum concentrations of total bile acid(TBA),alanine aminotransferase(ALT),c reactive protein(CRP) and peripheral blood cell level were determined in 27 cases preoperatively,1 week and 2 weeks postoperatively. Results:Serum concentration of CRP and the white blood cell count(WBC) and platelets(PLT) markedly increased in all(P0.01) whereas TBA and ALT markedly decreased(P0.05) in patients with cirrhosis and splenomegaly at 1 week postoperatively. WBC?RBC and PLT returned to normal range and CRP tended to approach normal values in patients at 2 weeks postoperatively. However,TBA and ALT were even much lower on 2 weeks postoperatively(P0.01).Conclusion:These data suggest that liver function was improved and peripheral blood cell in patients with cirrhosis and splenomegaly were returned to the normal level after splenectomy. Splenectomy is an important therapy for the patients with cirrhosis and splenomegaly.
