Abstract

Objective To explore the relationship between serum homocysteine and insulin resistance(IR) in patients with acute coronary syndrome(ACS).Methods A total of 224 patients with ACS proved by coronary angiography and 168 normal controls were detected the levels of homosysteine, and the relationship between homosysteine and IR was analyzed. Results The serum levels of homosysteine, fasting plasma glucose, fasting insulin, body mass index and homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance(HOMA-IR) were significantly higher(P0.05) and insulin sensitivity index(ISI) was significantly lower in patients with ACS in comparison with control group(P0.05).The serum level of homosysteine was positively correlated with fasting insulin(r=0.192,P0.01) and HOMA-IR(r=0.216,P0.01),and negatively correlated with ISI(r=-0.147,P0.05).Conclusion The patients with ACS have significantly higher level of serum homosysteine and insulin resistance. The level of serum homosysteine is correlated with insulin resistance in patients with ACS.
