Abstract

[Purpose] To investigate the characteristics of cancer death in by analyzing cancer registration data, 2003. [Methods] The data of all cancer death cases were collected from population-based cancer registration database in 33 local cancer registries in China. The data were sorted, checked and analyzed according to China Registration Guideline and Cancer Registration: Principles and Methods,IARC. [Results] Thirty-three cancer registries covered 49 401 800 persons, accounted for 3.82% of population in 2003. The new death cases were 76 846, 47 285 for male and 29 561 for female. The cancer mortality was ranked from 54.2/105 to 303.0/105. In metropolis registrations, Shanghai had the highest cancer crude mortality with 219.8/105, Shenzhen had the lowest crude mortality with 54.2/105. In common area registrations, the highest cancer crude mortality was 303.0/105 in Yangzhong city, the lowest crude incidence was 74.0/105 in Ganyu county. The top mortality cancer was lung cancer, stomach cancer, esophageal cancer and liver cancer in the registry area. [Conclusion] Lung cancer, stomach cancer, esophageal cancer and liver cancer are the common causes of cancer death in registration area.
