Abstract

Objective :To probe the immediate effect of amplitudes of facial nerve evoked potential on peripheral facial paralysis patients. Methods :To measure the amplitudes of evoked potential of buccal branches of facial nerve on peripheral facial paralysis patients; to observe the reduced degree of injured facial nerve, and to measure it again after acupuncture at Hegu five minutes, to compare the change of the amplitudes of evoked potential. Results :After five minutes acupuncturing at Hegu, the amplitudes of facial nerve evoked potential significantly elevated (P0.01) compared with before. Conclusion :To acupuncture at Hegu can immediate affects the amplitudes of facial nerve evoked potential, and affects the function offacial nerve. This is the strong proof of selecting acupoints ofthe corresponding meridian distal to the focuswhen using acupuncture-moxibustion to treat peripheral facial paralysis patients.
