Abstract

Polycystic ovarian syndrome( PCOS) is an endocrine disorder with high morbidity at present stage. Presently its pathogenesis remains unclear, and there is no unified effective therapeutic strategy set up domestically and overseas. Treatment of western medicine focuses on lowering androgen, improving insulin resistance and ovulation induction. In recent years traditional Chinese medicine has been playing a particular role in treating PCOS. The disease belongs to the domains of amenorrhea and infertility in traditional Chinese medicine theory. The main characteristics of PCOS are the inability of ovum maturation and the obstacle of ovulation, which correspond to the pathology of renal deficiency and blood stasis in traditional Chinese medicine. Tonifying kidney and activating blood circulation is the fundamental method of traditional Chinese medicine in treating PCOS.
