Abstract
The symbolic meaning refers to the deep sense of the image or the artistic conception in literary works.The symbolic meaning of the literary work is formed by the the richness of literary discourse,the symbol of literary works and the readers' differences in understanding literary works.The symbolic meaning of The Old Man and the Sea reveals essentially the human spirit,the human living environment as well as the living attitude and the living psychology of the mankind.
