Abstract

Nowadays, power system cascading failures starting at a simple disturbance becomes a key factor that threatens the stability of bulk power grids. To find out effective measures to reduce the risk of cascading failures in power grids,by means of IEEE RTS 96 system a cascading failures searching model is used to analyze the impacts of the faulty probability of key lines, probability of hidden failures and transmission limits of key lines as well as adopting new control measures on risk index of cascading failures.Simulation results show that lowering the faulty probability of key lines, adding a line between two specific nodes and adopting new control measures are effective methods to reduce the risk of cascading failures, and the impact of reducing the probability of hidden failures on risk index is limited.
