Abstract
Objective To evaluate the clinical effect of treatment of open apices teeth with mineral trioxide aggregate( MTA) in adults. Methods 33 cases with open apices in adults were selected and divided into two groups at random. The root canals were cleaned and shaped, and then disinfected with calcium hydroxide. In the experimental group, the apical root canals of 18 teeth were sealed with MTA to create a 3 ~ 5 mm apical barrier under root canal microscope. The remainder of the canals were filled with AH plus and Obtura Ⅱgutta-percha. In the control group, the canals of 15 teeth were treated with Vitapex for apexification. All cases were ordered to re-check for clinical and radiographic evaluation on 3 months,6 months and 1 year respectively. Results All the cases in xperimental group had no clinic complain after treatment. The recall radiographs demonstrated that the apical radiolucent areas of the teeth with pre-existing apical lesion deceased gradually or disappeared completely. The efficacy rates was 94. 1%. In the control group, the apexification of 7 teeth succeeded and 8 failed. The efficacy rates was 46. 7%. The X test showed statistically significant difference between the two groups. Conclusion MTA is effective and quick in treatment of open apices teeth in adults. MTA may be an ideal material of pulposis treatment.
