Abstract
The aluminum-removing and technology of Sc2O3 extraction from Bayer process red mud have been studied in this paper. The red mud was sintered with suitable amount of Na2CO3 and CaO at 1080 ℃ for 40 minutes, then leached with alkaline liquor and washed with water, and the content of aluminum oxide in the red mud decreased by 78.73%.The resulting red mud was leached with 6.5 mol/L hydrochloric acid at 60 ℃ for 1.5 h.The extraction and separation of Sc was carried out with 2% P507 and sulphonating kerosene and estraction yield of Sc was 90.60%.Scandia with purity of 95.20% was obtained by stripping with 2 mol/L NaOH,precipitation with oxalic acid and roasting at 800 ℃ for 1 h.
