THE USE OF MSCT IN STUDYING NORMAL HEPATIC PORTAL VEINS

Abstract

Objective To study normal hepatic portal veins by means of multi-slice CT(MSCT) so as to provide anatomical data for clinical reference.Methods Cross-sections of the hepatic portal vein and the superior mesenteric vein from the MSCT and MPR coronary images of the superior abdomen of 106 adults were selected to study hepatic portal vein,superior mesenteric vein and splenic vein.Results The degree of the angle of hepatic portalvein was(105.51±36.41)°.The diameter of the proximal end of splenic vein was(8.14±0.38) mm.The diameter of the proximal end of superior mesenteric vein was(9.52±1.77) mm.From the portal area of superior mesenteric vein and splenic vein to the hepatic port ranged from 44 mm to 71 mm(average of 56.85 mm±2.55 mm).The diameters of the proximal end and the distal end of the hepctic portal vein were(12.87±(1.50)) mm and(12.78±0.73) mm.Conclusion The diameters of the proximal ends of hepatic portal vein,splenivein and superior mesenteric vein and the angle of hepatic protal vein measured from the coronary cross-sections of superior mesenteric vein and hepatic protal vein can be used to provide data of venous return around pancrea and the pressure distribution according to the MSCT images.
